Homemade Breadboards
for Electronics are easy to make. We use Paperclips as the Rails and Connectors. These are Safe and Secure Circuits! |
ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GOGGLES

HOMEMADE BREADBOARD CONSTRUCTION
Electrical tape and lots of Elmer's glue can hold down the paperclip rails very nicely. Hot Glue is NOT needed. Just make sure to use a good amount of Elmer's glue when you are applying it to your electrical tape. When it dries, the strength of the bond might surprise you! Allow it to dry a few hours.
PAPERCLIP CRIMPING METHODS
BE CAREFUL!
WARNING! NEVER CONNECT A BATTERY TO ITSELF!!! HEAT, FIRE, ACID, FUMES, EXPLOSIVE, DANGER!!! Take this warning seriously. In less than 5 seconds fumes will begin releasing gases from the short circuited batttery. Those fumes are toxic. Do NOT attempt to find out if it gets hot. It does. The fumes are very toxic. The battery and wires are EXTREMELY HOT. When using Magnets for powersource connectors, you must NEVER allow the battery to accidentally connect to itself. The battery must never connect to itself!!! |
Before we do any Circuit making, we must think about safety. We must NEVER connect a battery to itself and that includes on the circuit board. When we make Circuit we must be VERY CAREFUL to NEVER ACCIDENTALLY CONNECT THE RAILS as shown in the pictures on the right here ====================>
DO NOT TRY TO REPLICATE THE PICTURE ON THE RIGHT HERE! It will causes dangerous Toxic Fumes, Explosive metal, Extreme HOT burning danger!!! NEVER CONNECT BATTERIES TO THEMSELVES! |
We must always use a Resistor to protect the LED.
If we too much CURRENT through an LED, it will burn out. It is very important to choose the correct Resistor to proetect the LED. For a 3 Volt Power Supply, a 220 Ohm Resistor is common, but it varies depending on how the Circuit is designed and how many components are used. NEVER CONNECT AN LED WITHOUT A RESISTOR! If you do, it will burn the LED out. The LED will be broken. Do NOT leave the Circuit Active in this state. ALWAYS USE RESISTORS TO PROTECT CIRCUITS. |
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTION
HOMEMADE BREADBOARD
Large Paperclips = Rails of our Homemade Breadboard.
Electrical Tape, or Duct Tape, and lot's of Elmer's Glue to Hold Down the Large Paperclip Rails. We can use ANY piece of Cardboard to mount our Paperclip Rails onto.
We can Keep the Paperclip Rails full size, as 6", or we can cut them in half as 3" using HEAVY DUTY SHEARS. (WEAR GOGGLES: Adult Supervision Required!!!)

Unfold the 10 Large Paperclips
Power Connectors using Small Paperclips
Paperclip Crimping with Needle Nose Pliers
As you can see, we simply use Needle Nose Pliers to CRIMP the Paperclip Connector onto the Paperclip Rail.
Squeeze the Needle Nose Pliers very hard to perform a solid crimp. But, do not squeeze so it too much, or else you will exceed the durability of the paperclip.
